CHARACTER PAGE!

Meet the Bean Counter Regulars!

(Note: Some characters may not have last names until I bother to think of them. Thank you.)

Snugg Muggsly
A former acclaimed art student currently employed as a penniless bum.  He lives in a garbage bin behind the Bean Counter, but has yet to starve thanks to the goodwill of his friend Sonny, who owns the place.  Though he can be grouchy and sarcastic and has long lost the will to improve himself in any way, he still maintains enthusiasm for every stale pizza crust and dented can of beans that comes his way.

Sonny Funk
A beatnik who owns and runs the Bean Counter, the hippest coffee house in the city (it's not a huge city).  He was once a famed jazz pianist with a promising career in songwriting before the pressures of success caused him to adopt a more bohemian lifestyle and settle for running a small business.  As the only person at the Bean Counter with any life experience, he doesn't mind giving a bit of sage advice to both his paying and non-paying customers.

Eleanor Smackwell
An up-and-coming artist who befriended Snuggs in college.  Brought up in a rural community in the hills, she has a drive to overcome her humble upbringing and make a real impact on the world with her art.  This often leads to confusing and overwrought performance art pieces, so she has yet to actually inspire anyone.  Like Sonny, she sometimes attempts to motivate Snuggs to improve himself to little avail. Unlike Sonny, she's been the unwitting subject of Snuggs' affections since their college days.

Rita
A high school student who works tirelessly at the Bean Counter as Sonny's only employee.  A bit naive and a hopeless romantic, she gets a little too wrapped up in the personal lives of Sonny and his customers.  She doesn't seem to have a lot of close friends her own age, but she has a boyfriend - a 300lb. square-headed greaser named Teddy.  They have the most stable relationship out of anyone at the Bean Counter.

August
An aspiring writer who brings his typewriter to the Bean Counter every day, though he owned it for five years before he ever typed a letter on it.  He's a consummate overthinker, always trying to come up with the perfect idea for his hypothetical novel.  He's positive that if he waits and plans long enough before he starts, he can write the Great American Novel in one take.

Hap
An acting student with an oversized ego and a distinct lack of tact.  He fancies himself a ladies man, in spite of all evidence to the contrary.  He can also be a schemer, and has a history of get-rich-quick schemes that he tends to drag his pal August into.

Loretta
A young woman with the unfortunate job of playing the "Early Bird" mascot for Reggie's Eatums. Though it's an embarrassing role, she's desperate to start making a living for herself.  She visits the Bean Counter every day during her lunch break and right after getting off work, resulting in her wearing the costume every time she spends time there.

Wallace
A filthy raccoon that rooms with Snuggs in the garbage bin.  He gave Snuggs his signature coat as a peace offering after losing a battle for ownership of said bin.

Malignant Ghost Chester Bottoms
The ghost of a curmudgeonly old man who died at the Bean Counter.  He holds Sonny's coffee responsible for causing his fatal heart attack, and therefore makes feeble attempts to haunt his business.  He also has the eerie ability to appear out of thin air on weeks when I've completely run out of good ideas for a strip.
